Prof. Dr. Sanaa Al-Shalan Wins the Award for Best Arab Scientific Personality of 2025

Prof. Dr. Sanaa Al-Shalan (Bint Naeema), Professor of Modern Arabic Literature and Criticism at the University of Jordan, has won the Award for Best Arab Scientific Personality of 2025, earning her a place among the Top 100 Arab Personalities in the fields of science and scientific research. The award was granted according to a classification issued by the Egyptians Center for Studies and Research, in cooperation with the Arab European Institute for Strategic Research and Studies (France).
The award was officially announced during a formal ceremony. According to the award citation, the honor recognizes Dr. Al-Shalan’s dedicated efforts and outstanding achievements in promoting the values of science, scientific research, culture, thought, academic qualification, and capacity-building for students, as well as her continuous and sincere commitment to serving knowledge and humanity.
The awarding body stated in its commendation:
“We take pride in selecting you as the Best Scientific Personality in the Arab World, in recognition of your pioneering role in enriching literary and cultural life, spreading a culture of peace and love, and for your distinguished contributions to science, education, scientific activity, research, humanity, and society throughout 2025.”
Dr. Al-Shalan received this award based on a distinguished research portfolio, including internationally indexed first-quartile Scopus publications, in addition to her vast creative output and her rich record of scientific, social, Arab, and international service.
Her academic, scientific, and creative biography is exceptional and extensive. In addition to her academic career, she is widely known as the Sun of Arabic Literature, the Lady of the Arabic Short Story, and an Icon of Arabic Literature. She is also a writer, literary critic, media figure, screenwriter, journalist, and activist in the fields of human rights, women’s rights, children’s rights, and social justice, and a member of numerous literary, academic, media, research, and human-rights institutions at local, Arab, and international levels.
She currently serves as the Honorary President of the International Organization for Peace and Friendship in Denmark and Sweden (since 2023).
Dr. Al-Shalan has received approximately 66 international, Arab, regional, and local awards in scientific research, novels, short stories, children’s literature, theatre, travel literature, comparative literature, and media. Several of her plays have been staged in Arab and local theaters.
She has published nearly 90 books, including specialized critical studies, novels, short-story collections, children’s literature, theatrical texts, and travel writing, in addition to hundreds of peer-reviewed academic studies and articles, regular newspaper columns, and screenplays for television series and films.
She has participated extensively in local, Arab, and international conferences on literature, criticism, human rights, environmental issues, social justice, Arab heritage, human civilization, and comparative literature, and has served on their scientific, evaluation, and media committees.
Her creative and academic works have been translated into several languages, and she has received numerous honors, medals, honorary titles, and cultural and human-rights recognitions. Her intellectual and creative project has become a subject of many critical studies and MA and PhD theses in Jordan, the Arab world, and internationally.
