Prime Minister: The Humanitarian Legacy File Is a Sensitive Issue Affecting National Unity

Prime Minister Mokhtar Ould Diay stated that the humanitarian legacy file is a highly sensitive issue due to its direct impact on national unity, stressing that it can only be addressed through realism and fairness, بعيد from denial or the repetition of injustice.
He explained that historical complexities, misunderstandings, and past disputes continue to hinder a final resolution of the file, considering it one of several national challenges that require a calm and responsible approach.
The Prime Minister added that President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani has adopted a comprehensive approach to addressing this issue, based on dialogue with all concerned parties, respect for the principles of truth-telling, the duty of remembrance, the identification of victims’ graves, and the provision of reparations.
He emphasized the need to keep the humanitarian legacy file free from political maneuvering, warning that the figures circulating about it are inaccurate, and stressing that the anticipated solution must lay the foundations for social justice that strengthens national cohesion.
